Ghigos keep on their research, with
new explorations toward the "feasible" domain. During iMAGE, the 7th
Architecture in video festival, we have presented the project "visita a domicilio"
(visit at home): a friendly way to let people visit our tiny office, temporarily
moved to Florence. The idea was to set up a meeting point for both old and new
friends. In that way a collection of presents, objects, or even thoughts has embodied
and testified our growth, our path. All the records reminded those relationships,
those collaborations, still keeping the flavour of our experiences.
The exhibition
itself was a space which clearly gave the feeling of the chaos where we spend
nights and days working. Showing the studio has been thought to be the best way
to depict ourselves, our moods and our manias. In order to create an intimate
environment we have set up a comfortable place, where people had the possibility
to visit us: it was not just an exhibition.
The whole structure was such a
sensual environment: the inner space was sliced from outer context by several
light curtains. That was how it managed to be both self-standing and able to deal
with the outside. As a matter of fact the visitor-viewer was involved in a sort
of game in which the filtered perception led him always to get unexpected perspectives.
The view was felt
to be broken up, confuse, or even inexistent: it was an
allusive scene (or
illusive?!) Moreover
Ghigos have chosen to show in Florence a new brand identity: a happy crew of flies
- insects so marked but (at least once) so funny. Last but not least, Ghigos have
come out with a nice proposal: young design studio adoption.
The idea of
adoption comes from the acknowledgment of the design world in
Italy: far
to be easy to get a job at the beginning, it is even more difficult to stand out
with new ideas. Although the initiative has been presented with little irony,
it is really serious and provocative. People can help us with whatever they want:
thoughts, advices, criticisms (useful to our professional or humane growth), objects
(to be used or just collected), books, or even money... just give no limits to
imagination,
particularly when it is spontaneous and seems the obvious reality.
