DAP studio was founded in 1992 by Paolo Danelli and Elena Sacco, both graduates in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic. The studio participates in competitions and works in various fields of architectural design. Their project for the headquarters of Ferretti International won the Dedalo Minosse prize in 2002; in 2002/03 their works have been selected for the "Il Principe e l'Architetto", "Luigi Cosenza" and "Premio Accademia di San Luca" awards.
Paola
Giaconia graduated in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic; recipient of a
Fulbright grant, she moved to Los Angeles in 1996 where she collaborated with
Morphosis and RoTo. Grégory Taousson studied at the École d'Architecture
Languedoc-Roussillon and conducted research with the French CNRS. They both received
their Master's in Architecture from SCI-Arc and in 1999 founded A.polis.

Moltisolitudine is the project presented by DAP
studio and A.polis on the occasion of the exhibition "Deep Inside" held at Leopolda
Station in Florence as pertaining to Beyond Media 2003 - 7th International Festival
of Architecture on Screen. The
2003 theme for the Festival is INTIMACY. The volume of the
pavilion is in red glass, with two back-lit side elements on which the picture
of a wood is printed. This was made
using stratified glass with coloured film on the ceiling, on the floor and on
the back wall. The floor slabs were
installed slightly above the pavilion support plan. Inbetween an earth layer was
placed which can be seen from inside the path, so as to give the idea of a visible
underground. The
pavilion is lit from the outside, so that light can enter diffusely and softly
through the glass and the printed walls. Inside,
along the path, two partitions in semi-transparent material are to be found at
regular intervals: they show groups of people in full scale. Visitors
can pass through these partitions thanks to slits permitting them to walk through
the "crowd". A mirror wall is placed
at the end of the path, on the back wall. The
path suggests the idea of an abstract space in which one progressively gets away
from others to reach a dimension of total intimacy and isolation. The
mirror at the end reflects the image of him who, after passing the crowd walls
along the path, finds himself alone in front of his own self. The
web of communications around our lives makes intimacy hard to be conquered and
makes us find it in the contact with nature but also through technology. As
a matter of fact, technology can become an extension of our body and mind and
be the instrument into which we seek refuge and avoid throngs. This
is why both natural and artificial elements melt into the project: red glass was
chosen in particular to make internal space more artificial and abstract, as opposed
to wood and earth. The film in the
stratified slabs gives the material a full colour and at the same time does not
alter the glass transparency - the final effect is that of an altered perception
inside the pavilion. "we
plunge ourselves in the crowd, people bumping into us, pushing us; they mill around
us, indiscriminately. the wall of people surrounding us is the wall against which
our confused identities bounce. we are enclosed by the walls of our homes and
the outside hangs over us and seeps into our shell. the interior space is part
of a communication that deprives us of our intimacy. the threshold between inside
and outside, between public and private is dissolving. intimacy is a state of
mind, an interior journey of ever increasing exclusion and estrangement from others.
we leave the crowd behind and one only faint image, our own, walks towards us.
we move in bewilderment inside this new dimension we just conquered: the space
of separation is a garden to take care of and to discover, our eyes shut.."
