The aim of the competition was to project sheltered swimming pools and a lakeside resort instead of the town ex-bathing establishment of caldaro lake [BZ].
The project area is 11.900 m² and the estimated urbanistic volume 27.000 m³.
The lake of Caldaro is located between vineyards, orchards and wood, about 20 km from Bolzano.
It is the biggest natural lake of the Alto Adige area.

The aim of edk project was made by 4 points:
Place  preservation, respect and valorization of its distinctive elements; function  spaces quality, molteplicity, recognizability, usability and management; movement  road conditions, routes, accesses and tranformability; firmness  structure, materials and energy.

A partly hypogean structure hides those functions which have a larger shape [swimming pools and dressing-rooms], taking advantage of the natural difference in height between the street of approach (105? M s.l.m.) and the lake (96.5 m s.l.m.). the roof structure hosts the promenade and the panoramic belvedere on the lakeside and its attractions, and, keeping heat and stabilizing roof thermic inertia, creates a good environmental microclime.
The glass wall lake frontage blends with the park. Buildings type and morphology are inspired by the built landscape and the regional technics, through contemporariness.
The "masts", which signal the entrance to the nodal points of the plant and act as landmarks, recall the presence of the water stylizing the boat architecture. external lighting and information points repeat, using different dimensions the theme introduced by the masts, as well as the bathing-huts (inspired by the those made by fishermans) join creating the bus stop shelter.

The lakeside entrance is a large open space which changes into building through the glazed and double volume hall, acting like a square and a promenade extension, permeable to many levels. Infact, the bar from belvedere comes into the hall; the wall, which signals the structure is changing, from the hall continues to the square and becomes the local products stand frontage; the inner door is the glazed post which supports the overhanging offices building.
The satellite functions are adjoining the main ones and are formally integratet with them, strenghtening their meaning. Spaces have been thought to host many functions and different users in the course of the day and the seasons.

A great importance had been given to the routes, they should have been direct, characteristic, univocal (public, private and service ones), one different from the other and always provided with a plus value which wouldn't compel them to be just a passage way.

The main structure, a pre-fabricated post-beam system in reinforced concrete, has plugs made by two high density expanded polystyrene panels united and spaced by iron frameworks which act as reinforcement of the concrete laid inside.
The high heat insulator power of this material is assisted by a sequence of solar collectors made by an external fir wood facing at the back of which are applied spacer water-pipes which get warm at the sun.
Hall, recreation swimming pool and connection to the beautyfarm building have a glulam and steel carrying structure with a curtain wall plug.
solar cells are integrated in the double glass panels (photovoltaic system). The glass has an anti-reflective facing which, not only intercepts sunbeams, but also pulls down the loss of heat.

The wall panels of the swimming pools consist of thick stainless steel slabs with a special hard thermoresistant PVC layer permanently laminated to the steel by a unique process of hot calendering. The swimming pools are furnished with a hidden gutter, conceived on the basis of the finnish one, to enlarge the flooring surface.

The underground level, holding all the systems, is a water-tight compartment made by reinforced concrete on micro-bearing piles.
