We have to search quality everywhere.
Recently the artist Costa
Ricano Guillermo Vargas Habacuc took a stray dog, he fastened it by a rope
to an art gallery wall and left it dying until the dog starved to death
and thirst: the whole scene was under visitor's horrified eyes.
the perversion is that in a few days the single case of Habacuc aroused
the indignation of more than of 150.000 people all over the word while similar
seroius situations were costantly happening under our uninterested eyes.
Lager-dog's home, cement works become incinirators by magic during the night,
purification plants closed for years, bathing establishments made by reinforced
concrete, repeaters hide by chimney flue and firs, hilly views costantly
raped by the speculative system, neighbourhoods totally dedicated to prostitution,
pushers indicate so freely on google map where you can find cocaine,
cobret or eroine as if they were pizzerias in suburban areas where nursery
schools were still placed into the groundfloor of anomimpalaces. I think
the project of Arons en Gelauff studio throws out a clear message to the
global community, not only to the Dutch one. We cannot leave anything out
of consideration, we have to search quality everywhere.

The two Amsterdam animal refuges in Amsterdam have been amalgamated – the new-built is the largest pound in the Netherlands. The plot is in the city fringe, an apparently impossible wedge of cake.
The “comb model”
usual for this function consists of a long service corridor, with a repetition
of kennels at right angles to it, separated by small outside spaces. This
model is dominated by railings and the look of it closely resembles a prison.
We have had the service corridor and the kennel corridor converge in the
Amsterdam Animal Rescue Centre. This creates a long, thin ribbon building.
This building is folded like a ribbon along the waterway around the plot.
Inside this, two large play spaces for the animals have been created.
The building faces inwards in order to reduce excessive noise levels (barking!)
for the neighbours. In the high part of the building, the cat accommodation
is located above the dog kennels as an extra sound buffer for the outside
world. The central position of the entrance lobby determines the final form
– a fluid object. Its hide is a pixel version of the grass on the old dike
next to the location.
