The environmental  context where the new scholastic complex is going to be settled in Francavilla,  seems to have a  very complicated topography; topography is marked by the valley, the ridge,  and by cultivated terraces. In our project we tried to translate in shapes and  spaces what the territory has suggested to us.

The aim of our architectural approach was to reach the symbiosis with the natural landscape. The form concept is "the tape"; The task is to join large dimensions of  Adriatic countryside landscape made of rural settlements diffused between agricultural partiture, with the urban scale structure of Francavilla.

Through  naturalistic ways and sport facilities the site has become an agricultural park to use by collectivity .

The architecture works on the geo-morphological dimensions of the site.

Apparently the topography seems not to be changed: the landscape goes through the school covering all the classrooms with cultivated fields and forming a continuum with the surrounding rural territory. In the North side, along the street, a pattern of trees and landmarks organizes the perception of paths  and entrances in the buildings.

The valley, agricultural fields and the vegetation create the natural context. The "materialization" of two high levels defines the limits of the building as two functional parts so to make possible to build the school in two different times. (that was the task of the competition).

In the first Part, the medium school, common facilities are situated in the central position, if the second part would be done.

The second part will be the high school in the next future.

Our project tries to propose a rational exploitation of surfaces and optimal  flexibility of functions.

All the classrooms can be compressed or enlarged if it is necessary.

Each place, offices, classrooms, library, canteen, has the same good space quality, with panoramic views, natural lighting and the direct access from the garden.

The aim of our project is to give a strong and visible shape to the building from the  valley side but a discreet impact from the highest side where  the luminous stripe creates the skyline during the night.

The materials we use for our school are the ones the ground offers to us:

The south elevation is made by a wall of stones with big glass boxes as windows, while the north elevation, in the part of medium school is made of concrete, and in metallic grid where the wall of high school will grow up.
